Welcome to Virginia

Dear Internet,
I guess I took an unexpected blog hiatus. I had given myself permission to slack off on blogging on account of the move. Then, I got behind - so behind I didn't even know where to start. So, I just never started. Whoops. It has been implied, however, that curious minds want to know.

I'll try to catch you up.

It was a week before we actually closed and moved into our house so we chilled at a pretty nice Residence Inn for a week. Admittedly, the cats were able to settle in more quickly than Ben and me.

When I say we moved into the house what I really mean is "camped out." It was another three weeks before our stuff was delivered. Hence the photo here of our classy evenings together. Ben took his frustration out on our kitchen wall.

Does this remind you of anything?

I continue to struggle with the idea of doing one thing at a time so...

I had to do it, Internet. I mean, the master bathroom was brown. I'm actually quite fond of brown, but this particular shade in this particular room was a bit...off-putting. Perhaps a different angle will help you to better understand.

Sadly, neither the bathroom nor the kitchen has been finished.

After all, why spend time in a bathroom or kitchen when every inch of your neighborhood is begging me to come outdoors?

That's right, I took those photos in my neighborhood. Where I live. Don't be jeal.
Yeah right; you should totally be jeal. It is gorgeous here.

That's a snippet of my life the last few months. If you are very good I'll give you more snippets again soon!

Love,
J-

Suits me

We have a pool (for now). I love the beach. It may surprise you, then, to know how rarely I actually get into the water. As a result I only own two bathing suits. Well that and I can never find anything that fits right. There's either not enough suit (no bikinis for me), not enough support, or too much suit (who are these women with such long torsos?).

Suddenly, however, I am inexplicably gripped by the desire to buy a new swim suit. And, oh, some of the ones I seen online...

The husband isn't a fan, but this ruffled one piece from Wildfox is calling out to my whimsical side.

This beauty from J. Crew's Luxe Tulle line just went on sale. Look at the support that thing has! And ruching hides a multitude of sins often all too visible amongst beach goers. Sadly, the "regular" torso measurement is almost eight inches longer than my torso. Dear J.Crew, add swimwear to your selection for petites. Thanks.

Betsey Johnson calls this raspberry confection "Shortcake." Doesn't it sound perfect for me? I love that it has the feel of a strapless but still has the very thing needed for keeping your suit where it should be even in rough waters.

Now if I could rock a two-piece I'd seriously consider doing it in one of these.

Embrace Messy Hair

I don't know about you, but I am loving the bride's tousled braid in this Irish-styled wedding shoot from photographer Lucas VanDyke Photography.

I realize this is a shoot and not a real wedding, I really love it when brides choose to rock their natural style on this special day.

I mean, it must be so weird for the groom when he looks down the aisle to see some altered version of his fiance coming toward him. I know you want to look good, but seriously, you're getting married to someone who loves you for who you are and the way you look every day.

Also, how gorgeous is that red hair! There's just no reason to tame locks like that!

What do you think - coiffed or characteristic hair for your wedding day?

Head over to Green Wedding Shoes for more sun-soaked photos of this sweet couple.

I tried to give credit where it was due, but to be safe:

Update: I love it when you leave comments here, but I also created a poll (my first ever) on my Facebook page! Won't you come over and play?

Square Wreath Craft-Along

When I mentioned a few days ago that we could do one of the projects on my to-do list together, I so wasn't kidding. Only two of you took me seriously, but hey, that's goo enough for me!  Two's company and three makes a craft-along.

Since this is my first time to lead a group project via la internet, we're gonna go easy. I decided to tackle the Scrappy Flower Wreath from Delia Creates.

Yeah, she totally has the directions on her blog already (click on the image above to see), but I'm planning to change a few things so you guys will have more options.  I'm pretty awesome like that.

Here's the tentative schedule:

Sept 1:   Announce craft-long (look, I'm on time for this one!)
Sept 6:   General supply list
Sept 13: Two flower tutorials
Sept 20: Two more flower tutorials
Sept 27: Assembly and finishing touches
Oct 4:    Show and tell

Y'all be thinking about the color combos you want for your wreath.  In fact, share them here! Also, let me know if there is a particular flower you are dying to learn. I have a few ideas, but you know I love your input.

So excited!

Find inspiration in: Alice Blue Dress

The other day when I complained that no recent events had impacted my garter-making I lied a little bit. See, I wrote that post during some found time on Friday evening and scheduled it to post on Monday. Then, on Saturday morning I took my Emily to see out neighbor friend perform in a talent show. One of the girls sang Alice Blue Gown. You guys, this was no ordinary 10-year-old. I cannot even begin to describe the clarity, the sweetness of her voice. It was so stunning.

Normally I do not like to associate my garters with small children however loose the connection. But I have to make an exception this time.  If you've heard Alice Blue Gown before then I think you'll agree: how could you not be inspired?!
I once had a gown, it was almost new,
Oh, the daintiest thing, it was sweet Alice blue,
With little forget-me-nots placed here and there,
When I had it on, oh, I walked on the air!
And it wore, and it wore, and it wore,
'Til it went, and it wasn't no more.

I want an azure dress with sweet little flowers.  In fact, I sort of want an azure everything! Facinator, flowers,  scarf, shoes, you name it! For now I've resigned myself to a little Alice Blue mood board.

Ack! Now, I have to choose between making an Autumn-toned garter and an Alice Blue garter!  Which one inspires you more?

The Wedding Party

Is it just me, or is this the most perfect way to display your bridal and bridesmaid bouquets at the reception?

Way fewer calories than a dessert bar. Smells just as sweet, though. Just sayin'.
